Dear list friends,
     Thanks to all who replied so quickly to my request about brands.  The
crew will be especially appreciative of the info.  The iron is fairly
corroded, but the brand itself is still very readable, just two letters: AJ.
The general apparently wanted it very clear to his neighbors which livestock
was his.  It just so happens that the piece was found by a member of the
Hermitage's board of directors, out digging with us on a lark.  Should come
in handy around budget approval time.  I swear I didn't plant it!
                   The heat wave is breaking, the AC repairman is due this
morning,
