"Remembering John Cotter"Day was held at the University of Pennsylvania
Museum this Saturday (April 3rd) and was quite successful with 110 people
attending. A multi-media (slides, two videos and testimonials from
friends and colleagues) show outlined John's career and major
contributions to the field of Historical Archaeology. The creation of the new
JOHN L. COTTER AWARD IN HISTORICAL ARCHAEOLOGY was also announced to the
audience which included John's wife, Virginia, daughter, son-in-law and
grandson.

NOMINATIONS FOR THE JOHN L. COTTER AWARD
2000 SHA QUEBEC CITY

Please take note of the fact that we are looking for nominations for this
new award for next year and, of course, for following years. The first
presentation will be in Quebec in January 2000.

See the last SHA Newsletter (Volume 32 Number 1) Spring 1999 where on pp.
10 and 11 you will find instructions concerning the nomination process
and a NOMINATION FORM.

The John L. Cotter Award will only work if you, the historical
archaeological community, make it work by submitting nominations to the
SHA Awards Committee.
