Lester, Listees:
From the viewpoint of the Spanish south, this would be a great idea.
Majolica typology alone suffers from severe regionalism, and none of
us have ever had the time and money to travel the northern frontier of
New Spain looking at and photographing sherds and working out
pan-frontier types. As a result, there are apparently a number of
types that are identified differently in different areas, and others
identified in one area and not recognized in another, and so on.
French faience, seen on Spanish sites with some frequency, is even
worse off, with little cross connection with research in French
settlement areas. Other areas are in equal confusion.
I say go for it, and us Spanish Borderlanders can supply you with a
list of those whose work in the material culture field can be useful
to the project.
Jake.
