SUMMER POSITIONS--CULTURAL RESOURCES ASSISTANTS
MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (MoDOT)
CULTURAL RESOURCES SECTION
 
Archaeological Field Technicians and Archaeological Laboratory Technician
 
Several full-time, temporary positions will be available this summer with the
Missouri Department of Transportation's Cultural Resources Section.  The
employment period will be from May through August, 1999.  The positions require
completion of at least one year of college with course work in history,
architectural history, anthropology/archaeology or related disciplines.
 
Archaeological Field Technicians (up to 7 positions):  Duties will be focused
on archaeological field work and will include background research, Phase I,
Phase II, and Phase III cultural resources investigations, preparation and
analysis of artifacts, and preparation of material needed for the evaluation of
historic structures.  Safety toe boots meeting ANSI standard C-75 will be
required for some field work.
 
Archaeological Laboratory Technician (1 position):  Duties will include the
cleaning and analysis of materials from current archaeological projects and the
preparation of older collections for curation.  Neat, legible handwriting is
required.  Occasional fieldwork is possible.
 
The Cultural Resources Section of MoDOT is based in Jefferson City, the state's
capital.  Frequent travel, using state-owned vehicles, within the state of
Missouri  is required.  Employees will need to have sufficient funds to cover
travel expenses (meals and lodging) until they are reimbursed around the middle
of the following month.  Wages will vary from $6.90 to $9.90 hourly, based on
education and experience.

will be arranged by and paid for by MoDOT, is required after a conditional
offer of employment is made.  Drug testing will be arranged at a location near
you.
