I checked my bees on Saturday and was glad to see that they were alive
and well. It was a fairly warm day and there was quite a bit of
activity so I popped off the top cover and took a peek inside. I could
see that nearly all of the 9 frames had sealed honey still waiting for
consumption, but I'm not sure how deep into the hive this honey goes ( I
understand the cluster moves up).

My question is: Are there any signs that you need to start feeding? I
certainly want my bees to make it through the winter, but I don't want
to do anything to encourage early spring swarming. Also there has been
some chatter about pollen substitute patties, Does anyone have a recipe
that they would be willing to share? Along with the recipe, any
comments concerning the hows and whys of their use would be appreciated
.

Thanks for your comments
