the Calverts were the founding family of Maryland.  Avalon is an integral part
of Maryland history.  You can find several references to the colony of Avalon
in the rare book archives of the McKeldin Library at the University of
Maryland-College Park.  Much of the sources are available on line through the
UMCP web site.
