Hi y'all -- sorry for duplication --
William White asked for information on sod structures/buildings and both
Martin Perdue and I steered him toward Vernacular Architecture Forum
publications. VAF may not be a well known resource in many circles, but
since I think archaeologists and historians would find its stuff
particularly interesting and user friendly, here is some online info.
"Perspectives in Vernacular Architecture" (7vols. so far) is published
every two years or so. The articles are chosen from papers given at the
annual meetings and compiled into edited volumes. Amazon online bookstore
carries all but the first 2 volumes. The VAF bibliography, a terrific
resource for articles on varied social/cultural subjects (not just
architecture), is a regular feature of the quarterly "Vernacular
Architecture Newsletter" with entries submitted by members. It is online,
thanks mostly to Martin Perdue, (through 1995) at
www.math.ufl.edu/math/biblio.html. Martin, please correct if any of this
is wrong!
Suzanne
