The Euro-Christian tradition was to bury folks with there feet facing
east. I believe the idea was that when the raptures came you would
rise up facing towards the holy land. In relation to criminal
activity, I recently read an article that states that wrongdoers were
sometimes buried on a north/south axis. It may then be possible to
differentiate between the "good" folks and "bad" within a given
cemetary population. Documenting why various people were thought to
be "bad" is up to you.
