Omnibus Parks & Public Lands Bill Signed Today!
This morning, the President signed into law the Omnibus National Parks and
Public Lands Act, H.R. 4236 (formerly known as the Presidio bill).
It includes over 100 national park, public land and conservation issues such
as authorizing new parks, wild and scenic rivers, heritage areas, and
historic trails. It also has the reauthorizations for the Advisory Council
on Historic Preservation and the Bureau of Land Management. The Council was
reauthorized at $4 million a year through 2000.
The office of the Federal Register, which assigns the public law numbers,
doubts that the new law will reach them today. For those interested, check
with the Federal Register's recording at (202) 523-6641.
