Hi!
I am hoping to teach an introductory historical archaeology class in the
spring. If so, this would be the first time this course has been offered at
the U of Hawaii. Can anyone recommend a good textbook? The program here is
geared to prehistoric archy in Hawaii and the Pacific, but the students are
really interested in learning about the postcontact period. The early
postcontact period (1778- ) saw the arrival of European explorers such as
Capt. Cook, American missionaries, whalers, and fur traders. The Chinese
arrived in the 1850s and the Japanese in the 1870s.
I want to be able to give the students a good overview of the history of
historical archy, theoretical perspectives, methods, and techniques. Thank
you for your assistance.
Susan
