I am working with a restoration/archaeology project on a turn of the
nineteenth century (ca. 1800) rural house site in the Carolinas, and have
a situation where some wish to put up a "picket fence" around the front
yard. Does anyone have any good references to indicate when yard
fences became common, and the types associated with various periods
of the 19th century.
