Federalist Papers author, John Jay, was the first President of the "Society
for the Manumission of Slaves and the taking care of those freed." The, Fort
Jay, on Governors Island, was built in homage to him by Columbia University
students. Thomas Eddy formed the society, an Irish Quaker. Thomas Eddy lived
on the parking lot block I've studied for the owners of the hockey team the
"Islanders," in the South Street Seaport known as 250 Water St. and the
Milstein block.
