this, but my rememberance of this issue is:
The exhibit was associated with Vlach's book. Some African American
employees of the Library of Congress objected to the exhibit because they
felt that images of slavery in the exhibit somehow implied that African
Americans were inferior. It should be noted that this protest took place
within a larger context of allegations of racism among African American
employees of the Library of Congress and issues related to hiring and
promotion
