Tim Dennee, Alexandria Archaeology:
Early issues of Scientific American and the various Bureau of the Census publica
tions
for the 1870s and 1880s cover a wide range of industrial subjects, including not
just
census figures, but industry standards, history, and technical considerations. B
oth can
be found across the river at the Library of Congress. You might try the Union Ca
talogue
of Serial Imprints (pre-1956) for trade journals as well. If not available at th
e
Library of Congress, volumes can be borrowed by a university library from the Ce
nter for
Research Libraries in Chicago. (They don't loan to individuals.)
Good luck with the research and please share the bibliographic details of your f
inal
report with the list.
