Egyptian archaeologists in the Nile Delta have found a necklace
thought to be a military decoration awarded by the Pharaoh Ahmose more
than 3,500 years ago, a government newspaper said Wednesday. The
necklace, which has 19 pendants shaped like flies, turned up in digs
at Tell Basta, a site about 45 miles northeast of Cairo, the newspaper
al-Ahram reported. The head of the archaeological mission speculated
that the owner won it for military service against the Hyksos, Asian
invaders expelled by Ahmose after they'd ruled northern Egypt for 200
years. See
