The only Australian reference I can find is in Warwick Gemmell's book, And
So We Graft from Six to Six: the Brickmakers of New South Wales, Angus &
Robertson, Sydney, 1986, which has four paragraphs on "Tally Marks" on p.
51, and illustrates eight examples (fingermarks or impressed arrow heads)
on p. 27.
The illustrations in this book are aimed at people who collect bricks. You
might find similar information in collectors' literature in the USA.
