I suggest you check out most people's definitions of "classical" that are
limited to Greek-Roman or between ca. 6th cent BC and 6 Cent. AD.  Your
interest are "pre classical".  Aside from that I understand your passion
for material.  I got interested in Neareastern archaeology, after a
youthful love affair with Peru and Mexico, by reading Michener's THE
SOURCE.  Try it, its a great read and there's good understanding there.
