Ah, a subject to mine own heart. I belong to 2 associations. One is
financially well heeled and the other is in the throws of deciding what they
want to do. Most non-profits (most bee keeping organizations are
non-profits) beekeeping organizations are organizided to promote education to
become non-profits. This should not exclude education to it's members.
Education should include the non-beekeeping population at large. This
should be along the lines of booths at fairs, speakers at schools and
articles in local news publications, donations of observation hivers to
nature centers and the like. Don't forget your members. This could include
bus trips to bee oriented
sites even if it is tied in with social events such as dining at a local
restaurant. There many things an assocaition could do to promote it's own
organization for the purpose of education. All of this takes money. If
you want your orgainization to be successful don't trhink you will not need
a healthy treasurry. This is not done overnite. Dues alone will not assure
your financial security. You will need money raising events such as
participation in local fairs, auctions and perhaps even bee frelated craft
fairs as an example. Good luck in your endeavors.
