Tom Barrett wrote about queen introduction in a matchbox. I have done it in
the way he describes and it works. It is important that the box is cardboard
that the bees can chew and not wood chip. Although it is effective to put the
matchbox in the hive it is more instructive (fun) to put it on the alighting
board and watch the bees release her. Make sure the front of the hive is in
the sun or she may get chilled
I am sorry to learn that Ireland now has Varroa. From experience it can be a
distressing time and a steep learning curve. It will separate the bee keepers
from the bee owners.
