Mike and others concerned:
We've been out of town for a few days, and I'm sorry to see that my posting for a friend caused the ruffling of some feathers.
First, let me say that, I believe, the author's name was included. SHE is Lynn Murdoch, and can be reached at

My posting for her in no way implies endorsement of her statements; I merely forwarded her comments, as she was concerned about posting them from her place of employment. I am sure she would welcome your comments and concerns, and I encourage you to contact her. I, myself, know nothing of Mormon history or archaeology, which is why I did not reply. Your comments re: prehistoric archaeology are well taken, and I could not argue with them.
Again, sorry to have upset anyone.

To refresh your memory (as the posting was long ago):
<< Most people outside the LDS
Church don't want to know about "Mormon" archaeology, they consider it
the equivalent of studying the artifacts at Waco or Guyana. And most of
them are too far outside the culture to correctly interpret the findings
within the social context anyway (i.e., they will only look at =
literature
published by outside "professionals" who have no idea what was really
going on). Most studies I have seen are too prejudice one way, not
enough insider input. >>
What kind of garbage is this? And who is this anonymous speaker? Is this the
equivilent of saying that archaeologists don't have any business studying
prehistoric sites, Native Americans should be the only ones, because they
"know" what was going on? Give me a break. I'm not a Mormon but I have
believe I have done some pretty good interpretation of what was going on on
many sites I have dealt with here within a pertinent context of the state's
culture. BYU is not the only capable institution having undertaken historic
archaeology here and it doesn't take "insiders" to really know what was going
on. Yes, to understand the LDS Church history, its certainly good to
interview church historians, but the kind of attitude spewed out here I've
only heard from extremist elements of the Church with high levels of
paranoia. Care to come out of the closet, sir?
