Read your question and suggest that you contact your local paint company
or a book on toxicity from your local library for more expert advice. I
can only speculate, but think that Ethylene Glycol might be toxic.
We have had bees moving back and forth in that pattern and were told
that it is a random act called "washboarding." If that is what your
bees were doing, it may not be related to paint.
Sometimes we too have found dead bees in front of the hives and have not
known what happened.
