The Archaeology Department at Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest has an
immediate opening for a field technician. The position will continue through
the end of 1999. Staff works a 37.5 hour week. Housing and per diem are
not provided.
Field work will include intensive landscape archaeology focusing on
recovering evidence of the ornamental grounds surrounding Jefferson's
Palladian retreat house. Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in
Anthropology or a related discipline with training in historical
archaeology. Familiarity with the excavation of complex stratigraphy and
with 19th century material culture is required. The ability to work
effectively as a member of a team, and to interpret archaeological work to
the public is essential.
