I have just returned from Hope plantation, c.1803, in Windsor, NC.
In the main hallway of the mansion there are two painted canvas
"rugs". I am sure they have some useful information on the use of
canvas in the 19th century. There address is Historic Hope
Foundation, 132 Hope House Road, Windsor, NC 27983 Phone 919-794-3140

I hope this helps, John Mark Joseph
