Your ideas and suggestions would be appreciated.
After having collected several hundred artifacts and bagged
them along with location information, the time is coming to
put all the relevant data about the findings into some kind
of data base.
Does anyone have any suggestions about the best software to
buy for archeological purposes? Please consider that the
project I am pursuing is not funded by any grant; the
software will be paid for out of my own pocket. I expect
that at least the data base should allow one to be able to
call and sort data by several variables, and permit one to
develop 3-d graphics illustrating the specific locations
where specific artifacts were found, and be easy to use. I
have a 486 IBM type computer that operates at 25 meg, but
am willing to upgrade if it is necessary to get the job
done.
Do you have suggestions about the best ways to store
archeological data on computer, including any suggestions
for categorization and use of codings for location, type of
item, etc.
Please offer your suggestions about the best specific
software to use to do the above functions with archeological
data and coding suggestions.
