I believe this question has been asked before (possibly even by me).
 
Can anyone tell me what the life span of the varroa mites are?  One of
Brother Adams tools in hive management was a break in the brood cycle.
How long would such a break have to be to eliminate varroa?
 
If nothing else treatment during such a break might eliminate a larger
proportion of the individual mites.
