I vigorously disagree with nicotine being contraindicated during
breastfeeding. I also disagree with cyclosporine and lithium.
Furthermore, I have expressed my feelings about drugs of abuse on
Lactnet before. The AAP list, as helpful as it is, is not the word of
God. Everything, including the baby and mother's social situation, the
risks of formula feeding, need to be taken into account when making such
decisions. And unless there is clear and serious danger, the decision
is the mother's and her partner's not somebody else's.
