Hi
You are so right-I'd like permission to share your rant with staff nurses
I work with.. Half of them don't get it either and I am also sick of
being labeled the fanatic because I will not ever endorse the casual use
of formula(among other things!). I went to a WIC conf in NH and listened
to Jack Newman. He is a wonderful speaker. He talked about using common
sense and letting the mother decide what she wants to do. Nurses tend to
make judgments and look for quick fixes. "We have to feed your baby this
formula because his blood sugar is low and he could suffer brain damage"
The feeding of formula is a standing order for One touch below 40.
They do not tell them the side effects of the formula. Is the mother
making an informed consent?? Hardly!! This is my new quest-trying to
change the policy so it does least amount of harm. (thanks to all who
sent info)
I'm ranting too!
