SPECIAL SYMPOSIUM: CORRECTION AND INVITATION
I am pleased to announce a specail symposium at the up-coming SHA 2000
in Quebec City. This full day symposium;
ENTERING HISTORICAL ARCHAEOLOGY: THE SECOND AND MOST
RECENT GENERATIONS
will bring together a number of senior people in the field, including 9
Past SHA Presidents, and young new professionals to answer the question:
"How and why did you enter the field of historical archaeology?" Anyone
interested in the history of our discipline may want to attend this session.
CORRECTION: In the first Preliminary Program listing put out on the SHA
2000 homepage the schedule for this session was incorrectly listed as
being (both parts!) on Saturday morning. This error has now been corrected
and the session will be:
Part I Saturday (January 8th) morning
Part II Saturday (Jan. 8th) afternoon.
Although there are many other quite interesting sessions on Saturday I
would urge anyone interested in the history of the field beyond the period
of the pioneers (1930's - 1950's) to consider attending.
PART I will involve presentations by
William H. Adams (coming all the way fron Australia)
Anna Agbe-Davies
Norman F. Barka
Minette Church
Mary C. Beaudry
Paul R. Mullins
Charles E. Cleland
Douglas J. Pippin
Kathleen Deagan
PART II will involve presentations by
Donald L. Hardesty
Timothy J. Scarlett
Henry M. Miller
Richard Veit
Robert L. Schuyler
Theresa A. Singleton
Terrance M. Weik
Roderick Sprague (who will be getting the JC Harrington Medal
at the Awards Ceremony in Quebec)
Melburn D. Thurman
We hope to get the audience involved in telling how they got into historical
archaeology as a profession.
See you in Quebec and, again, the two-part session is on Saturday morning
AND Saturday afternoon.
Bob Schuyler
