Ned,
One CRM firm where I did time once intentionally padded reports with useless
and undecipherable jargon. To them (and in their minds, to their clients),
a long report (i.e., heavy) full of technical sounding stuff implied a job
well done.
As for CRM reports being useful beyond fulfilling contractual obligations,
another one of my former employers intentionally produced really snappy
looking graphics using state-of-the-art digital plotters, etc.
Unfortunately, when I recommended changing back to b&w patterns in site
maps, profiles, etc. to make the reports more useful to the MANY of us who
use second and third generation report photocopies, I was rebuffed with:
"Why should we make them useful to anyone beyond out client." Now that's
some good logic!
