Hello Anita: Please post the following message to histarch subscribers...
On January 7, 1998, the University of Nevada, Reno, Heritage Resources
Management program is offering a short course (at the SHA conference hotel)
entitled "Assessing the Archaeological Significance of Historical Sites," to
be taught by Don Hardesty (UNR) and Barbara Little (NPS). The course costs
$165, and the deadline to register is December 5 (this Friday). For more
information, call 1-800-233-8928. UNR's Web site for the Heritage Resources
Management program is www.dce.unr.edu/hrm/
The course is an introduction to the evaluation of the archaeological record
of historical sites for National Register eligibility. Key topics include the
development of historic contexts and research designs for significance
evaluation, assessing archaeological integrity, small isolated sites such as
towns and mining districts, linear sites such as overland roads and
railroads, industrial sites, and recent 20th century sites.
If you are interested, please sign up right away! The course comes very well
recommended, and this is the second year that Hardesty and Little are
team-teaching.
Thank you.
Terry Majewski
