Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest and the University of Virginia are
pleased to offer the Ninth Annual Summer Field School in Historical
Archaeology from June 8-July 11, 1997. The program focuses on method and
theory in historical archaeology through field and laboratory work and
directed readings, and explores the contributions of archaeology to museum
interpretation on-site at Poplar Forest and through field trips to other
archaeological and historic sites in Virginia. Research will focus on the
cultural landscape of Jefferson's Bedford County plantation.
Participants can earn five graduate level credits through UVA, or
elect a non-credit option. The deadline for applications is April 25,
