Britain is setting up the world's first Mummy Tissue Bank in an
international effort to trace the diseases, sex habits and lifestyles
of the ancient Egyptians. The tissue bank--due to open in 1997 in
Manchester, England--will be run in collaboration with U.S. and
Egyptian scientists. The team will gather samples of blood, tissue and
internal organs from mummies housed in museums around the world.
Tissues from the pharaohs will be stored in Cairo. The export of royal
