Some of you on the HISTARCH list may be interested in this
announcement forwarded from the former curator who has moved on to
Redwood National Park in California. The well-known Bertrand
collection does indeed present a great job opportunity for a curator.
Run by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as part of DeSoto National
Wildlife Refuge, the facility is located about a half hour's drive
north from the cities of Omaha, Nebraska, and Council Bluffs, Iowa.
It is in rural western Iowa, but close to what reasonably passes for
civilization in these parts. A GS-09 in the Federal pay scale is
currently $31,181 per annum.
It appears from the brief announcement that the application period is
open through March 3. I presume that inquiries can be directed to the
Refuge Manager, DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge, 1434 316th Lane,
Missouri Valley, IA 51555. Phone 712-642-4121. Information and
application materials may also be downloaded from the Office of
Personnel Management (OPM) web site: http:// www.usajobs.opm.gov
Once there, click on current jobs, use the "M" alphabetic search
feature, and scroll down to Museum Curator.
