ANNOUNCEMENT:  The Association of Historical Archaeologists of the
Pacific Northwest (AHAPN) was created to promote the role of historical
archaeology within the northwestern region of the United States.  It is
a voluntary association of professionals and avocationals interested in
improving communication among colleagues, academic institutions,
regulatory agencies, historical and archaeological societies, and the
public.  If you have an interest in the Pacific Northwest, and would

Among the web pages presently online are ones devoted to ethics,
curation, current issues, and links to relevant sites.  Objectives for
the near term include improving communications among individuals and
organizations in the region, hopefully via a listserver and additional
pages devoted to:
        - current events and research,
        - public outreach with lists of available lecturers and locations for
onsite visits,
        - academic opportunities for students,
        - research opportunities for volunteers,
        - bibliographies of regional historical archaeological research topics,
        - conferences and online symposia, and
        - online publication of out-of-print or hard-to-acquire articles and
new research.
 
Long-term objectives include:
        - expanding the teaching of historical archaeology in regional
institutions,
        - creating new opportunities for focused research projects, museum
exhibits, and electronic products,
        - expanding current volunteer participation in fieldwork and laboratory
cataloguing to include archival and material culture research,
        - providing workshops for colleagues, students, and volunteers, and
        - improving the visibility of historical archaeology within the region.
 
As a volunteer organization, without officers or membership dues, the
AHAPN relies upon the coordinated efforts of its associates.  If you are
