A source I have used here in Louisiana is " Louisiana Trade Tokens" by
Louis Crawford, Glyn Farber, and Edmund Tylenda.  The book was
published in 1982 by Hebert Publications.   You may want to check it out
 
I used the book years ago when I was working on a large data recovery
project in New Orleans and later for some sugar plantations along the
Mississippi River.  I hope this may help you in some way, at least for
comparisons.
