Re: Trinkley's comment. Taking care with the feelings of others is something
we should all work on. However, like the term "French" gunflint, "Kaolin"
pipe is almost universally misused among Hist Archs. Ned Heite is correct.
These white clay pipes ARE in fact made from ball clay. Kaolin is a whole
different thing. Ask a potter. Why not amend our new year's resolution to
include using the right term, and be more sensitive to others? What a
wonderful world it would be...Carl Steen
