Yesterday I had my son's 2.5 year check up. One of the questions was "how
is he eating?" I responded that he was eating quite well. After a slight
hesitation I added that he was still nursing. "Oh, how often?" I replied
4 times a day. To my delighted surprise, he didn't even raise an eyebrow!
Feeling self-conscious anyway I said that it seems very important to my
son. He replied "Yes, there is an emotional component to it." Again, not
a mention of my being manipulated by or spoiling my son. And by the way,
he examines the child in the parent's lap and is the only one I know of who
can examine a 2 year old without the child minding in the least! A gentle,
enlightened, wonderful pediatrician!!
