Hi
We have a large number of hives (over 600) in a small area behind the
Kona Queen office and a resident caretaker, who has a large dog.
This dog has lived here his entire life.
The dog, Holmes by name, is surrounded by bees all day. He has
learned to ignore them, and for the most part, the bees ignore him.
On particular days when the weather is changing or the bees are
robbing, he will hide under a truck, but for the most part he isn't
bothered by them.
When he is stung he immediately does his best to remove the stinger.
He seems particularly sensitive to stings on his feet.
And no, he does not swell! Like most commerical beekeepers, canine
or human, they only swell for the first couple of hundred stings!
