I haven't read the newsweek carefully, but I *did* love Dr. Gartner's
comment about breastfeeding:
p. 32 "It's hard to come out and say, 'Your baby is going to be stupider or
sicker if you don't breastfeed'," says Dr. Lawrence Gartner, chair of the
American Academy of Pediatrics' working group on breastfeeding. "But that's
what the literature says." YEAH!!!!
On the other hand, on page 22 is a list of a guide to the best baby books,
and front and center is "What to Expect" series including a color photo of
the two authors. The description speaks volumes, including this nugget:
"What to Expect the First Year" and "What to Expect the Toddler Years" are
organized chronologically by month -- helpfully letting you in on what the
DEVIOUS LITTLE TYKE has in store next. There are excellent sections on
topics ranging from breast-feeding to special-needs children. . . "
The beautiful Johnson and Johnson ad of a nursing mom and baby is following
page 69. I did have to chuckle though: baby has no diaper, mom is in bed
wearing a negligee, and her left hand is under her head!
Also, check out the "A Am Your Child" ad on page 91. Looks like mom and
baby have been breastfeeding!!
