Dear Alicia,
There was a cat burial at the windmill site at Kingston, Norfolk Island
that for several reasons would have to date before the Pitcairn Islanders
arrived on the Island (1856) - probably 1840s. The grave was fairly shallow
and on the sea side of the windmill and the miller's house. Some stones
were placed over it.
BTW The Pitcairn Islanders (before they moved to Norfolk) passed a number
of laws in regard to the protection of cats. Cats were valued for their rat
killing abilities.
Cheers,
Robert
