Dear Histarchers,
 
In Australia the wire nail received early acceptance and became almost
universal there by the mid 1870s. The Eubanks (Patent) nail dominated the
market from the mid to late 1840s to the 1860s when the iron wire nail
began to gain the trust of builders. It was noted later in the nineteenth
century that the acceptance of the wire nail was making slow progress in
the USA. Has anyone come across the late 1860s star-impressed (on the top
of the head) Eubanks nail? Eubanks claimed that there were too many
imitators of their nail, so...
