Tim--Lucy Wayne wrote her dissertation on brick making in Charleston SC (U of
Florida). Tom Wheaton excavated a brick clamp in Chrleston for the SC Dept.
of Transportation (The Jimmie Green LIME kiln). Brockington and Associates of
Mt. Pleasant SC have surveyed/excavated several. John Cotter excavated
several at Jamestown, and I excavated a couple at Colonial Williamsburg. They
have some good oral history on file at CW, by the way. Gurcke's book on brick
maiking is a classic. In short, there's a lot out there on brickmaking. Bring
it all together for us! Carl Steen
