I am new to Lactnet. I am an LC at a hospital based lactation center in
Oakland, Ca.
I am writing in response to Barbara Wilson-Clay's letter of Feb 5 regarding
NNS and NS. She spoke of a 36 week infant who at 3 weeks was well below
birthweight. My question is: Was that weightin pound and in tenths of a
pound, or was it in pounds and oz? It would make that infant's weight loss
more if in tenths. I have found that infants who are compromised and probably
dehydrated have very poor jaw excursion and tongue movement. It's as if their
mouth is tight. With hydration the normal movements reappear and correction
of the problems causing the feeding difficulty/weight loss. can be
addressed.
Have Lacneters seen this?
