IMPORTANT NOTICE! DEADLINE FOR SHA STUDENT PAPER PRIZE EXTENDED TO DECEMBER

to encourage lively competition for the SHA Student Paper Prize, the
submission deadline has been extended until Friday 3 December 1999. The prize
will be awarded to a SHA student member whose written version of a
single-authored conference paper is judged superior in the areas of
originality, research merit, clarity of presentation, and professionalism.
The paper must also be of potential interest to an international audience.
The winner receives: free registration for the 33rd Conference on Historical
and Underwater Archaeology in Quebec City ($40 before 1 December and $80
after 1 December), a banquet ticket ($35 value), a one-year student
membership ($40 value), a letter of recognition from the president, and
an invitation to submit the paper for possible publication in Historical
Archaeology. On top of all of this, you’ll be able to put on your c.v. that
you received the first SHA Student Paper Prize ever awarded!

To submit, you must be an SHA member, and you must be presenting your paper
at the 2000 annual meeting in Quebec City. Format of the paper must follow
current Historical Archaeology style (see Vol. 30, No. 3, 1996, or
www.sha.org/ha_style.htm). You can either submit three “hard” copies of
the paper to Teresita Majewski, Statistical Research, Inc., P.O. Box 31865,
