While I do not know either of you gentlemen, and cannot comment on your
credibility, I can comment on Mr. Murphey's original post suggesting  a TPQ
date of 1925 for linoleum.
 
I have been researching and recording the remains of the Lancaster Brick
Company of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  The LBC (for short) was encorporated
in 1919 and began operations in 1920.  It was set up by people from high
positions within the Lancaster ironworks (big makers of brickmaking
machinery) and the Armstrong Cork Co. (of apparent fame).  The Armstrong
people were involved because they were planning a large factory expansion
in the early 1920s and knew that they would need a great deal of brick.
So members of the board of directors invested in a brick making company
down the street from the factory.  Given all of this expansion at this
point in time, I think that Mr. Murphey's date of 1925 may be fairly close
to the mark in some places of the world.  I don't know, but I suppose that
Iain's estimate of the 1930s could be a good marker for Australia   , but
some historical checking may be in order for a specific date.
