Hi:
Nectar can stimulate a queen's egg-laying, but she has to be in a
physiological state that allows this to happen. In our chambers, simply
providing nectar during the fall (when daylength has been decreasing) will
not turn a queen's egg-laying back on. It may stimulate a queen that is
still laying. We suspect photoperiod or some other factor acts like an
on/off switch. Nectar can speed things up, but can't turn on the response.
