This is a formal call for papers for a session on computer-assisted
archaeology proposed for the 1998 Midwest Archaeology Conference, October
21-24, in Muncie, Indiana. Computer-assisted archaeology is a broad term
designed to accommodate a host of technologicially-based resources,
including mapping (GPS,GIS, total-station techniques etc.), database
systems, computerized photographic records, web-resources, and a host of
similar topics. Those interested in contributing a paper AND/OR
demonstration should send an abstract of no more than 200 words to:
John Staeck
Anthropology Program
Luther College
Decorah, IA 52101
or email to [log in to unmask]
or fax to John Staeck at 319/387-1107
Topics are open, though there seems much interest in: GIS, GPS, Database
topics, and web-related information systems. If facilities can be arranged
we will attempt to be able to project computer imagery on the screen. In
addition, or alternatively, a laptop-based "poster" display might also be
arranged. Please make it clear in a cover letter what, if any, special
facilities you might need to present your work.
Deadline for abstract submissions is: June 15, 1998 (allowing a formal
proposal to be sent to the conference organizers in early July).
I hope to hear from many of you soon :-)
regards - john staeck
