Help! Looking for sources!
I have shaken the data - observed the patterns
and now I need some references either archaeological or historical --
(including cookbooks) -- to guide me along...

I am working with a large faunal collection from tenement
back lots in lower Manhattan. Most of the material dates
to the Mid-19th century -- (yes, many of you are probably
already familiar with this project!). It is possible that some
of the material may be attributed to African American residents
who are mostly invisible in the documentary records. There are
some interesting artifacts -- a few pieces of coral and three
large, as yet unspeciated "exotic conch" shells --a bit of wild game
(not much at all!) but otherwise the deposits contain typical
19th century foods - pork, beef, mutton in varying quantities,
lots of fish (probably the most economical choice in this working class
neighborhood), and very little poultry.

Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!!
