According to "The Lives of the Saints" St. Abrose was born in Gaul
around the year 340.  He was appointed the Governor of Liguria and
Aemilia.  By his virtue in this office the people of Milan wanted him
as there bishop.  He was elected bishop inthe year 374.  He gave his
foutune to the Church and the poor.  He succeeded in concluding a
treaty between the ariansand the empire.  He died in 397.
