Dear Histarchers, Susan Piddock, Jim & Eloise Barter,
 
There are no references that I can think of nineteenth century ceramics
that include patterns with animals dressed in human clothes. You could try
collector type books on children's things. Another possibility is that the
fragment may have been part of a satirical composition but these are
usually on mugs. Most of the children's type anthropomorphically clad
animals that I've seen on ceramics belong after about World War I. Any
chance of seeing a picture of this shard?
